Up-Cylcled Furniture, Collaborations and Donations

23 August, 2013

Woodbender had the privilege of sponsoring furniture for the Plascon Colour Cafe at Decorex Joburg 2013. Woodbender was able to obtain chairs which had worked for many years in a popular restaurant which were still in good condition, but in need of a makeover. This was achieved by spraying these all crisp white. Hertex Fabrics came on board and sponsored fabric for the seats in an array of on-trend colours and Decorex SA representatives took the refurb one step further by dipping the chair legs in different colour paints to complement the fabrics and finish off the chairs.
UPCYCLED RENATO CHAIRS

The chairs were donated to Decorex SA to be used for the exhibition at the Plascon Colour Cafe and to later donate these to a worthy cause of their choice. Decorex SA decided to support a number of beneficiaries with 74 chairs donated in total, part of these will remain the property of Decorex SA.

The first batch was handed over to The Soweto Home of the Aged. Media partner M-Net, and celebreties Loyiso and Miss South Africa were also there for the special day. We trust that these chairs will lighten up and bring much joy and comfort to the residents and families at the Soweto Home for the Aged.

Woodbender would like to thank Decorex SA, in particular Laureen Venter for organising this opportunity of sponsorship and donation. Projects such as these are close to Woodbender’s heart and it is a great pleasure that with the art of “up-cycling” these well-travelled chairs have be given new life and benefitted a number of organisations.

Special thanks also to Hertex Fabrics and Plascon for their value add to the chairs and helping complete their transformation.
